In 1989. six institutes at the University of Hamburg joined to form a new infrastructure, the Centre for Marine and Climate Research (ZMK).
Purpose of ZMK is to consolidate and expand the capacity of marine, climate and environmental research at universities. This is done by joint decision-making and planning of research foci, budgets and appointments.
