The School of Engineering and Science is the combination of different but related fields in one major subject. Examples are Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Earth- and Space Sciences, or Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Scientists from Jacobs University are active in the areas of marine geosciences, biological oceanography and robotics. Work focuses on improving our understanding of carbon and trace element cycles at continental margins and hydrothermal vent systems as well as on biogeomarine resources. The university has been successful in the field of data management, underwater robotics and deep sea observatories. Currently around 60 scientists, technicians, and students are involved in ocean sciences at Jacobs University.
