Prof. Dr. Hans Burchard is the new speaker of the Forum
The Future Forum on the Ocean (ZFO) is reorganising itself and has elected Prof. Dr. Hans Burchard as the Forum's speaker. He is Professor of Physical Oceanography at the University of Rostock and at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW). There he is deputy head of the Physical Oceanography and Measurement Technology Section.
Der Vorstand des ZFO setzt sich aus vier Wissenschaftlern aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen zusammen: Dr. Gesche Krause, Sozialwissenschaftlerin (Alfred-Wegener-Institut Helmholtz-Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung (AWI), Dr. Heike Link, Meeresökologin (Universität Rostock) und Prof. Dr. Martin Visbeck Physikalischer Ozeanograph (GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel).
Das ZFO als ein gemeinsames Gremium der Meeresforschungsgemeinschaft in Deutschland hat das Ziel, übergreifende wissenschaftliche und forschungsstrategische Themen in diesem Feld als Forum zu diskutieren und vorausschauend zu entwickeln. Vor dem Hintergrund der disziplinären Bandbreite der Aufgaben und Funktionen der Akteurinnen und Akteure in der deutschen Meeresforschung arbeitet das ZFO an übergeordneten und zukünftigen Fragestellungen. Diese sollen sowohl eine hohe gesellschaftliche Relevanz mit Bezug zum Ozean und Küstenmeer haben, sich aber auch auf grundlagenbezogene sowie angewandte Forschungsschwerpunkte in Deutschland und Europa beziehen.
In the form of discussions, commentaries, strategy papers and memoranda, the ZFO acts in a broad spectrum of strategic activities related to ocean and coastal research. The forum focuses on the integrative and strategic orientation of future German marine research, which includes both fundamental and applied issues of interdisciplinary marine research. In addition, work will be done on intensifying cooperation within German marine research and on transnational European and international cooperation.
